Wow what a difference a day makes and then what a difference 10 seconds makes! Let me explain. After looking and feeling like death warmed up yesterday and being prescribed different pain relief some anti sickness medicine I can take through tube (at last) and some mouth and throat anaesthetic I rewrote my daily ritual and proceeded to carry out the first sitting of my new course of drugs. Wow, suddenly didn't feel too sick, wow actually felt like eating something by mouth (I managed 10 teaspoons - small spoonfuls of cream of chicken soup), wow I didn't feel too bad when attaching stomach feed, and wow the pain of swallowing had been relieved - albeit temporarily. I was in bed for 11 and slept through till 1 when tube feed finished. Quick refresh of pain relief and settled nicely back to sleep. So far so good after the night before. Then at 2am the cement factory works (about 500 m down the road) security alarm was set off and was bleeping and warning intruders until 5am! Not happy as for first time it was something outside that had woken me, but happy that it was something outside as that meant pain was in control. Up this morning at 8am for Gargles n Meds and water intake, anti sickness meds taken as a precaution as felt the best I had done for a couple of weeks. 60 min breather and then had some diluted 40sips through tube. Finished it without a drama and stood up. That is when worst 10 seconds of my life so far hit as I knew I was going to be sick. I bolted to the toilet and 'upchucked'. The previous pain of getting stuff down a frazzled throat and oesophagus was multiplied by 10 as my concoction came up the other way. My language from the bathroom may have contained some expletives!! So much was the pain that my body instantly said 'this is mental - don't be sick again' and miraculously kept everything else down?? A rinse or two of cold water eased the pain and shock somewhat, but I now have a raging throat, and feel sick but am reluctant to put anything else into tube just yet. Getting picked up for hospital in 20 mins so having a rest before motivating myself to get into the car and get session 22 done. Also seeing primary consultant this morning, who will no doubt tell me that this is all to be expected and I am doing well.. I look forward to a steady section of the rollercoaster for the rest of the day. Dr consultation 10mins - all ok stronger pain relief prescribed. Faxed to main hospital pharmacy at 1230 - told it will be an hour. Treatment done 15mins, wait for bloods 15mins, bloods 5 mins - no problems. Walk to pharmacy 5 mins, wait in pharmacy queue 20mins, told by pharmacist that prescription has been received (it shud have been as it is scanned and emailed!) Told it will be another half hour wait. What gets me is that there is a state of the art drug selection computer which bags prescriptions, the staff then get involved with labelling, put items on front desk without calling names out, queue gradually getting longer - now out to front entrance. It is obvious that more staff are required, I can understand the need to control distribution but this is madness. Glad I only have two more weeks of this. And just to cap it all I have finally got home and cannot find my phone, I hope i have left it in the car when i got out I deffo had it on the journey back...
