Back Home...at last

Less than one minute read time.
After two weeks of going stir crazy in hospital I finally made it home this Tuesday only to have the paramedics called out at 2.30 in the morning when some of my overnight feed had somehow gone on to my lungs causing me to choke. After quite a panic and several tests carried out I had calmed down and was given the all clear. So now at home after being knocked back for six I am slowly starting to eat other foods such as soup, taste buds still not working and dry mouth all the time. Family continue to be supportive as ever which is really appreciated. Here's hoping April brings some more signs of recovery...

Oh, Dave ... you are really are going through the mill lately ! I remember those night feeds well - now, do you use a few pillows to prop yourself up somewhat ? We bought a load of cheap ones from Argos for the night times and a lovely nurse told me to sort of ' criss-cross ' two with one behind and the other in front but long-ways up ... sorry, hard to describe so have a mess about with them to find a comfortable position.

Take it easy with the eating, there's no rush, and your taste buds will eventually get a bit better ... we are back to time and patience again. Get plenty of rest ( I know ... nag, nag ! ) and here's to more signs of recovery very soon. Sending hugs.

Hi Dave.  Sorry to hear you ended up in hospital for so long, sending you a big hug.   As Joycee says, are you propped up enough for your night feeds?  I used to use a lot of pillows and cushions, you need to be fairly upright, it's very easy to start sliding down when you start dozing off.  The taste buds and the dryness will gradually improve.  I know it's very very difficult but you need to give yourself time.  Have a good rest.  xx
