a long old year on a rollercoaster

1 minute read time.

Dad was diagnosed with nsclc last July, a month before his 60th birthday.

He suffered chemo, radio and has been off work ever since. On his annualk review we raised the problematic headaches, several, weeks and scan later and yes, it has spread to both his bones and his brain.

After a year of hoping against hope we were all devastated to say the least. We were told that surgery was pointless as they could almost guarantee that new tumors would replace any that were removed. Chemo and radio was not possible either due to the risks.

After weeks of investigaqting alternative hospitals privately, we got to see Dad's oncologist who has agreed to radio - hurray!

We went on Wednesday to have his mould made his cast, treatment starts on Tuesday.

It's given Dad so much hope, he has a new lease of life, he is out walking every day and is really optimistic.

Whilst I am staying positive, I can't help but think that 2 sessions of radio on his lungs couldn't stop the cancer spreading. He has been on mmorphine, tamazapan and steroids for the last 2 weeks, this is undoubtedly where his new energy has come from - I fear what will happen if/when these drugs are stopped.

I am now living at home with Mum and Dad having out my flat up for rent 250 miles away and quit my beloved job of 5 years, I feel so much better being here for them but do miss my freedom, but there is no alternative - you only get one set of parents.

It's nearly 7 o'clock, getting dark and raining, Dad has just got wrapped up and gone for his daily walk - despite our protests!

Am hoping this new phase of positivity and hope is a long one......

    Hi Shelle,

Sorry to hear about your Dad, but glad he is getting his Radio treatment. Your Mum and Dad must be very proud of you for sacrificing your Job and Flat . So you could be there to give them your Love and Support.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xxx

Thank You Sarsfield, they do appreciate it, although Dad has a lot of guilt over it despite my best efforts at reassuring him! I guess that's Dad's though.

we go for his first session tomorrow, I'm a bit nervous as it's his head and there are risks, he is being very quiet - not a big talker at the best of times but am trying to keep him positive.

I have just read this blog I wrote in October - my how things have changed!!

It has however, reminded my of how positive we all were back then, I shall take a leaf out of my own book and rally round the family with positive thoughts - watch this space!
