Scared and doctors don’t listen

Hello

just wondered if there was anyone out there who has had similar symptoms with a positive outcome.
Around 4 months ago my symptoms started with lower back pain. Now it is more achy hips and legs which sometimes feels like a burning pain. I also have an intermittent pain in my lower left leg and feels like something is in the leg. Although can't feel from the outside.
my thigh on this leg also feels swollen .

i have seen the gp numerous times as had some biopsies taken for skin lesions which have come back benign. I am concerned about 2 lesions on my other leg but gp was adamant they are of no concern although do not provide an actual diagnosis of what they are so referred to dermatology after I asked . Dermatology have just looked at the pictures and put as routine so won't be seen for around 12 months.
i have had the lesions for around 4 years and I feel they are different, strangely now they look like they are shrinking.
My concern is that with all this pain I have advanced cancer and no one is listening. I am considering going to a & e although I'm not sure that is appropriate. currently awaiting some blood results.

  • Hi , sorry to read about the challenges you are facing. It is hard navigating the different issues the body throws at us..... and from my 23 years experience living with my rare blood cancer.... it's all about continuing to work with your medical professionals to allow them to work through the maze that can lead to a diagnosis.

My Dermatologist was 99% sure as to what type of blood cancer I had........ but it took a further year, 2 CT scans and 6 biopsies to get the proof.

  • Thank you for your response and hope you are well.
I will await my blood results and go from there.
i just don’t even like speaking to the doctors anymore as They just think I am anxious and it is so frustrating. No reasons given for the pains I have. I have tried for 4 months to carry on and hope they would improve.

  • Hi Anon85 I hope that by now you have got somewhere with your GP and you have been seen by Dermatology.

I have very similar pain to you in my hips and leg. I had surgery 16 months ago to remove a lesion and was told everything was  fine. Like you around 4 months ago I started getting pain near to the scar of my surgery, sometimes a stabbing pain lasting a few seconds sometimes a burning pain and an ache. Over time this pain affected my thigh, hip and groin. I got an appointment to see my GP who referred me back to Dermatology. I got a call saying it was routine and would not be seen for at least a year. Mid July I noticed my lymph nodes in my groin were swollen, I waited in the hope they would go down, they didn't. End of JULY I got appointment with GP again. She requested urgent ultrasound, blood tests and emailed Dermatology. Cut to the chase I've just been diagnosed with secondary Merkel cell carcinoma with no primary found and I'm waiting for a PET scan.

  • Thank you for your reply. I am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. Well dermatology are still adamant I don’t need to be seen in a hurry. I have had a leg X-ray and awaiting results. My blood results are normal. That doesn’t reassure me completely though, how were your bloods?
currently awaiting an mri after seeing the musculoskeletal team after an assessment on my back , hips and legs.
Will most likely have to wait at least 8 weeks though so I don’t know whether to have a private mri as the pain is really irritating and just feel constant worry.
