always on a friday

1 minute read time.
had a really good week side effects from chemo are waring off got my mri results ( pelvic) about 10 days ago , and was told it hasn't shrunk but hasn't got any worse. oh hum chemo hasn't worked but hey it hasn't spread kinda good news . just waiting for my op on the 5th ( already been cancelled twice) . so all the while i've been chemo free i've been enjoying life once more. until.......friday afternoon my postman is always late . i get a letter in the post asking me to come in for another mri on the 3rd but why i ask myself i had one 3 weeks ago must be some clerical balls up somewhere. rang the onc nurse answering machine , rang newly acquired mcmillian nurse answering machine rang surgeon sec answering machine . 1 hour and 2 fags later sec rang me back so i ask why another mri? apparently and no one seemed fit to inform me of this they have found lesions on my liver so want an abdo mri done before the op! oh brill friday afternoon i can barely understand the surgeons secretary for being in the middle of a panic attack and no one is answering the phone! so i am left yet again reeling from this news and with it being a friday afternoon with no one to explain it to me. i don't understand why if my mri came back ok 3 weeks ago they want to check my liver surely they would of mentioned it then, about the only thing i did understand from the lady on the phone was try not to worry and have a nice weekend. thankx .i hate friday afternoons

If they were absolutely sure about finding what they thought they had found, they wouldn't be asking you to do another MRI scan.  There is a tiny risk, so they don't do them for no reason.

Just chill out and enjoy your family, and try again on Monday.  You may find things a lot more easy to sort out then.  Try and go out and have fun since you are feeling better. Today would have been better, but with wellies and waterproofs all round, you might be able to enjoy the sea.  Or a nearby mountain.

    Good luck

about having a lovely weekend after they throw a missile at you.  I mean as you say why the heck didn't they tell you this earlier?  I'm not surprised you're having a fag now - where's the level on the gin bottle?  However, as Ruthless says, MRI scans are expensive - they don't do them at the toss of a coin, and they obviously just want to make complete sure that they know exactly what they are dealing with.  I'm thinking of you, and sending you hugs.  You need more explanations and support than you are getting now.  xxxx Penny

I guess at best they might hope you are reassured by them wanting to make sure they have understood your condition fully by doing as many scans as required, but think it was a bit poor sending that out in a letter. I would of expected at least a phone call to allow you to ask the obvious questions !

When I was told I'd need an MRI (after only a CT) to check lesions on my liver, I thought of everything bad straight away. Turns out quite a few people have cysts and moles on the liver that are harmless, but show up on MRI and CT scans too. So in my case the MRI was to make sure which they might be looking at.

Now it's Monday, I hope you've got a few more answers, or at least managed to enjoy some of the weekend in the end !

thanks for your reply , yes i did get some answers today . i'm allergic to contrast dye so they couldn't fully see my liver on the mri 3 weeks ago. and yes many people have these lesions and live perfectly well with them 40% of the population have them apparently! but because my cancer is aggresive small cell they want to cover all bases and make sure its not cancer but there pretty sure its not!so its quite good they are checking everything could of just done with some explaining to begin with .

It's the way we're given a load of technical phrases then left hanging in suspence, just worrying ourselves sick (er) that causes unnecessary strain.  Great to hear that they're just dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's.  You sound more cheerful tonight - I do hope so.  Loads of love xxxxx penny
