When I finished chemo and radiotherapy I felt a bit deflated. True I didn't expect a bunch of flowers or a brass band but I felt really down when they said "That's it." Of course I knew there was worse to come - I had to have major surgery so I knew what was coming next but to try and find out how effective my treatment had been so far was like drawing teeth. Apparently my oncologist is a brilliant doctor but during his training he had his personality removed along with his sense of humour. What I did like about him was when I did finally draw some information out of him it was plain, straightforward without technicalities. My first consultation he said "I am going to try and save your arse because the tumour is only four centimetres up." You can't get plainer than that. However, if you don't know what the next steps are it is very unnerving. The only thing you can do is ask and ask again and keep on asking until you get the answers you need. They work for you after all.

    Keep smiling
