A lifetime of Cancer - help at last

2 minute read time.

Well I must say I feel a bit better today. The 'New' mac nurse came out as promised and spent two hours listening to both of us.

She was astounded at how hubby did not get up and hit someone with all that has happened to him. She has arranged for hubby to see the Palliative doc this week instead of next week, so that he will get some pain relief from what we can only describe as muscle spasms all over his body - he was on his knees the night before last unable to move with the pain.

She agrees that we need support, even if it is just someone to listen to us - sometimes thats all it takes, we know that some of the things that get to us cannot be fixed but it helps to air them.

She is even going to look into help with our bed , we have always had to pay for everything because of hubbys situation with his employer, so three years ago we had to pay for an electric bed, we borrowed the money to pay the £2200, the bed came with one of those mattress's that mould to your body. We have not had a decent sleep since we got it, but we are not in a position to replace it , so the nurse is going to see whether we can get help with new mattress's. God to get some sleep without being in pain would be a godsend.

She is even going to have a chat with our GP about my health issues as well as hubbys - I have put up with pain in my arm/shoulder for 14 yrs, the top rib to the front is swollen and sore and the pain radiates down my right arm. My own consultants have looked at it, I have had numerous injections in it, all to no avail. They do not know what is causing it but it is so unfair because the pain is becoming unbearable and I feel so guilty because it is stopping me from making sure hubby is ok.

I was born with a spine condition for which I am on morphine patches but I cannot get anyone to do something about my arm, and at the moment I do not have the time nor energy to go to our GP and argue with him. So when she said she would have a chat with him it was such a relief.

I actually think she will help. We know she cannot do anything about our issues with government departments but if she can help take away some of the smaller issues we are faced with then it will be so helpful.

Keep your fingers crossed for us, maybe this time we will get some help.

I'm so pleased you are getting somewhere with the nurse and pain issues as I read your blog last week and you sounded on the edge of total despair. Now lets hope you get your bed and your shoulder sorted and can at least have a quality snooze!

    Lots of love, jeanie xx
