Has anyone else suffered from an irritating cough after surgery?

I started with a tickly cough (which I am sometimes prone to) a few days after a 3 hour op. I was told it's a side effect of the tube used during the general anaesthetic but I still have the cough 6 weeks later. I have spent a lot of time sitting or lying down due to the location of the surgery & I wondered if that is not helping the cough clear up. Can anyone help ease my worries?

I had an irritating cough after surgery but it wasn't easy to clear with an enormous wound running down my tummy, and I did feel a tad nervous trying to cough.  I tried all the recommended ways that physio suggested but could never do a really good one that cleared my throat. It definitely helps when you become more mobile. A bit of a walk did wonders for me.

    Hi Angela,

Thanks for your message. My wound was from my groin to my tummy & I still find it painful to do a proper cough. I must admit that the last few days I have managed a 30 minute walk around the block in the nice weather every day and I do feel I am coughing less. I am hoping that once I am back to my usual mobility & walking everywhere I will get rid of it!
