feel as though yesterday was a waste of time

Less than one minute read time.

I went to see the surgeon yesterday about  my lymph node removal,

He said he wanted to do my operation either next week or the week after and as it is a 60mile round trip arranged for me to have  my pre operative there and then so I spent another 2hrs having that done .

The surgeon presumed I had had my scan which was booked at the same time as my appointment with him,

When I said I hadn't he said he would chase it up but when I finally got home the scan letter was there it was for 26th january.

I phoned  his secretary first thing this morning and she said she would see what she could do,but when I phoned the scan people this afternoon they said that is the first space they had and being so far away and needing to fast for 3hrs before its unlikely I will get a cancelation ,

I am so frustrated ,if the surgeon thought it needed doing so quick it can't be good to have to wait until at least another week and I had got myself all geared up for it to happen sooner

    Hi Plum,

They have got you in right mess. If I was you I would get on to your surgeon as soon as possible and let him know the whole story. He might be able to hurry things up for you. The last thing you want is to sit worrying about it. All the best and good luck.

Tame care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xx

It does seem a bit of a mess, hospital aren't know for communications between departments, I once had 2 scans 4 days apart, turned out when they done the second scan, they could still see the dye from the first on.... Upshot being I had to go back a month later.....lol, well not really, but you gotta laugh......... Hope they get you sorted properly, waiting is a blooming nightmare

I am sorry you are having such a frustrating time.  Easier said than done but you will have to take the bull by the horns and speak to your oncologist/secretary, explain the situation, how frightened you are and that you want some positive care.  It can sometimes seem like a complete nightmare dealing with appointments so you will have to take the reins - your time is precious so get tough but fair and fight for some correct care.  Good luck, Ann

Hi plumduff, I have found myself in a similar situation recently. I have gone from 6 monthly check ups to annual ones. My last check up was due in September 2010, but, unfortunately, I had got mixed up and had booked a few days away at the same time, so I phoned the consultant's secretary who re-arranged my appointment for October.

I received a letter postponing my appointment to 26th January. I phoned the secretary and asked that I be seen in October as planned, but she told me that the managers had told them not to change any appointments to fit anyone in. Since then I have received another letter delaying my appointment till February now. I am waiting for another letter to come in postponing it again. It will be 17 months in February since I was last seen. I think that is downright disgraceful, but don't know who to speak to regarding it.

When I asked about what would happen if I had any concerns regarding my health, I was told that I would have to see my GP who would refer me back to the one stop clinic and have to go through all the same procedures that I did at the beginning when I was diagnosed.

I hope you get seen soon. The whole set up is a total mess.
