feel as though yesterday was a waste of time

Less than one minute read time.

I went to see the surgeon yesterday about  my lymph node removal,

He said he wanted to do my operation either next week or the week after and as it is a 60mile round trip arranged for me to have  my pre operative there and then so I spent another 2hrs having that done .

The surgeon presumed I had had my scan which was booked at the same time as my appointment with him,

When I said I hadn't he said he would chase it up but when I finally got home the scan letter was there it was for 26th january.

I phoned  his secretary first thing this morning and she said she would see what she could do,but when I phoned the scan people this afternoon they said that is the first space they had and being so far away and needing to fast for 3hrs before its unlikely I will get a cancelation ,

I am so frustrated ,if the surgeon thought it needed doing so quick it can't be good to have to wait until at least another week and I had got myself all geared up for it to happen sooner

hi Christine, sorry your having so much trouble arranging your check up, I know how frustrating it is every appointment I have had has been delayed for one reason or another and it is scary , have you got a nurse you can ring who might be able to help or at least ensure they don't delay it again                                                                                        Thank's  guys for your replies,I'm pleased to say the secretary rang me back today, she has arranged for me to have my scan on the same day I'm due in for my operation.

Although it is now on 24th Jan so a week later than I was told by the surgeon.

It seems things are never straight forward I now have 3 buses to go the 30miles for my scan  and then 2 more to go to second hospital for my operation, but at least now I haven't got too long to wait

    Hey Plum,

Just a thought.... is it a CT scan you're having?  If so, you have to drink a litre of aniseed tasting water in an hour before your scan.  I imagine you're having a general anaesthetic when you have the operation, and so should be nil by mouth for at least 12 hours before.  Or is your op the following day?

    hi marsha

yes it is  c t a head one. and also  neck and thorax and abdomen and contrast one it says it will  take approx 1hr  inc 30min preparation,  and as i am not expected at L G I until 3.30pm I assume the operation will be the following day I am told I WILL be in for 4 or 5 days depending on how long the drain is in and should be able to drive about 2weeks later,  Do you know anybody in the group who has had nodes taken out of neck? as the damage maybe caused by it sound quite bad it would  be good to know what effects it had on others

    Hi plum,

When i had my thyroid out in August they also took a few lymph nodes out. There can be problems as the neck is an area with lots of nerves etc It depends where the nodes are to be taken out?

I havent had any problems since but they always warn you about possible problems so fingers crossed you will be ok too! Im having a scan next week to see if a lump in my neck is problem node, if it is, all the nodes on that side of neck will have to be taken out.

If you want to know more, message me anytime

    Will be thinking of you

    Hi Vikki

that is what I'm having all lymph nodes removed on one side they tell me i will have a cut from under my ear to centre of my chin and one down my throat  4or5 inches long depending on the scans.

I think the one that threw me was that I might not have control of one side of my mouth, although my husband says I often lose control over my mouth lol.but as you say they have to warn you of worst outcome and I really don't have any option as I intend to fight all the way'

Fingers crossed that your scan proves nothing to worry about.

     Take care
