Hey Pauline - I had 23 RT sessions for BC and was advised the same.  However, I did go to Mauritius 3 months later and found I could use same factor on affected breast area as I could on rest of body.  My advice would be to start off the same as you would normally, keep an eye on affected area and up the spf if you need it. Being Mauritius I used factor 20 most of the time anyway - all over.  Hope this helps xx

  • Hi Pauline,

Good skin care during treatment - use the cream they reccomend, don't use any scented products on your skin or anything containing zinc.Drink lots of water too as it helps to combat the fatigue you may feel.

When treatment is over, protect the area affected by radiotherapy with a high-factor sun cream and wear a wide-brimmed hat. By next summer you should be able to relax the sun-protection although it would still be wise not to over-do the sun-worshipping.

You may feel tired around half way through your treatment and this may continue until a few weeks afterwards. Take it easy, drink plenty of water, and don't run until you can walk!

    Good luck,

    Hi Pauline

I echo everybody's advise: lots of cream on the affected area, drink plenty of water, savoid cosmetics such as deodorants and perfumed soap, take it easy.  Nobody mentioned factor 50 to me though.

I was also told about a good 'trick' regarding the cream: to keep it on apply it on a cotton hanky and put that inside the bra.  However, use light bra and loose fitting cloths.

I cope with fatigue by getting even more tired: I was walking to and from the hospital (around 6 miles there and back), continuted working (reduced hours) and 'celebrated' every other treatment.  Result: I made it to the last treatment on a Friday morning and painted the town red in the evening.  Not bad ....................................

    All the very best
