Unable to have MRI, due to clips from previous Brain surgery for an AVM.

Asked Consultant, due to no record of operation on their file. What would have happened if I went ahead with Mri scan, informed that Scan would have killed me.

Good news was that Bone scan showed clear.

Have had appointment with Consultant, and have decided on Radiotherapy.

Will have Conformal treatment, where a device called a multi-leaf collimator, can arrange the beams to target specific area of cancer with a higher dose directed at the cancerous cells.  Thus leaving the healthier cells with a lower dosage, therefore reducing the side effects.

Next step, December 4th, with the start of Planning stage, a CT scan to detail reference marks  on skin prior to start of Radiotherapy.

Treatment due to start in the New Year

Slowly coming to terms with the Cancer.  Have great support from Maggies Centre, (Google search Maggies Centre for further info).

Spoke with an old school frien today, who has gone through the "Process", five years ago, has been great to be able to talk face to face with a fellow Cancer sufferer.  He now only has yearly visits to see Consultant.    Since start of his treatment his appointment has always been with the same person, so was able to build -up a relationship with both Consultant and Nurses.

    Keep your chins up

Hi Sandy - you've been on a rough old journey already, and it's not over yet. I'm a Scot living in London, but one of my friends was telling me about the Maggies (I couldn't work out if they were like the MacMillan Nurses here in London?), but she says that people really praise them for all the good work they do. Where would we be without people like them, eh? You too can make a point of saying you would like to see the same consultant at each visit. Well, I could here - only after I'd kicked up stink about being shunted between doctors, never being able to build any kind of rapport with them. So now, I get to see the head honcho at each visit. It's worth asking about, cause I think it makes a difference when you see the same person each time - more confortable. I can ramble away for Scotland - all on my own lol  Your next step is December 4th and mine is December 5th - so I'll think of you on YOUR day, and you do likewsie for me, ok? Deal? I wish you all the luck in the world Sandy,  with love          kate xxxxxxx

And guess what I have the same Consultant and she gets rave reviews from all her patients for her understanding and caring.  She has the type of vioce you can listen to all day

So heres hoping all goes well for the both of us

    Test completed,

Planning stage completed on 16th December 08 and Radiotherapy, will start on Monaday 5th Janaury 09, and will be daily and l;ast for four weeks.sive thing

Not looking forward to after effects of Treatment.

On the postive, the Cancer is there and just has to be treated, it will not go away on its own.  No matter how much I swear at the invasive cells
