Turning London green!

2 minute read time.

If you were in London last Tuesday, chances are you saw lots of lovely Macmillan fundraisers wearing lots of silly hats and outfits. And our team were some of those crazy people, out in the rain, trying our very best to get our hands on your spare change!

Macmillan had permission to fundraise all across London last Tuesday, and didn’t we make the most of it?! There were nearly 400 staff and volunteers from our London office collecting all over the capital.

In the Cancer Information Development team, we wanted to stand out from the crowd. So we went for a huge cow outfit for maximum impact – what do you think?!

Here is one of our nurses, Tracy, kitting up for her two-hour slot:

Graham, one of our content developers, was there for the lunchtime slot:

And here is Debs, one of our content channel editors, gearing up for the afternoon:

Rumour has it, there was a moonwalking cow in Victoria that afternoon!

Oh, and shout out to senior nurse Sue and editorial manager Selina. They took on the early shift (nobody wants to do that one!) and managed to raise a third of our team's total!

We had an absolutely amazing day, meeting lots of lovely people with fantastic stories of how Macmillan has helped and inspired them and their families. For an office-based team like ours, it’s always a great opportunity to get out there and meet all of you fabulous folk! And look, we were even smiling through the thunder and rain:

You can read all the lovely stories from the day on Twitter, where you can see the fantastic efforts all the teams went to – from wigs and tutus, to ducks, angels and Elmo!

How much did we raise?

In total, we raised a humungous £17,673! Despite the rain! It just goes to show that every donation counts and really adds up to something incredible. This is more than enough to fund a Macmillan cancer information and support specialist for six months.

What can you do?

There are so many ways you can get involved – whether you fancy fundraising at one of our events, volunteering your time or signing up to an e-campaign. Every little thing helps!

Thank you!

Thank you to every kind person who gave us their hard-earned money – from the bag of pennies one lovely lady gave us to the wonderful £20 notes! Huge thanks also to the lovely fruit and veg seller who gave us a big bag of cherries, and the kind people of Pret who gave us lots of free coffees for standing out in the rain. We couldn’t do all the great work we do without your support. THANK YOU!
