Cancer may be the toughest fight you have to face but remember you are not alone. You may have lost your confidence during or after your cancer treatment because of changes to your appearance. This is the last thing you need, so it’s good to know that there are ways to help prevent you from feeling like this.
This Sunday 8 March is International Women’s Day and we want to tell you about the support that’s available to you to help you look and feel your best.
We often hear that some side effects of cancer treatment, like hair and weight loss, can have an impact on how you feel about yourself. That’s why we’ve partnered with Boots. Since 2009, specially trained Boots No.7 advisors have been providing information and hands-on support for people affected by cancer. They can offer tips and advice about all your beauty needs, including:
To make sure this advice was available to everyone, we worked with Boots to develop a booklet, Feel more like you. It has information about how cancer and its treatment might affect you, some tips from our beauty experts and helpful diagrams so you can apply the make-up at home too.
We also have other information about changes to appearance and body image.
You might find it helpful to speak to a Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisor in person. Caroline, one of our colleagues in the Digital team, recently visited her local advisor. You can read her blog to find out how she got on and if it would be something you’d be interested in. The advisors can give you face to face, personalised advice so you can figure out what works for you. They can also show you how to use products to manage or disguise changes or enhance any facial features to help you look and feel good.
Use the Store Locator to find your nearest Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisor.
And if a Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisor isn’t available in your area, you should still be able to get support locally. There may be a hospital or support group close by that run workshops about coping with the visible effects of cancer treatment. You can ask your cancer nurse specialist or oncology team if this is available in your area. Or you can call our support line on 0808 808 00 00.
