Friday through to today

2 minute read time.

Well Friday was the CT scan, nothing unusual there. Had one before a few years ago, same old horrible tasting stuff to drink....

The weekend just flew past, shopping and visiting family.

Yesterday’s day care operation wasn’t as I expected, we turned up early as always and shown through to award of 11 beds. Everyone having something different done by the sounds of it. I had my observations done and was seen by an anaesthetist and the surgeons registrar who explained all they needed to. I tried to joke with the registrar but it went straight over his head, Sue says my jokes are not that good so that’s probably why.

Then the wait........ It does drag when you’re waiting; they eventually came for me at 10am.

It’s quite a way from the ward to the theatres or it seemed like it when you’re the one being taken there!

They went through all their checks and took me into the aesthetic room, where they talked me through a few bits and put the line into the back of my hand. The oxygen mask went on and a little while later they injected the aesthetic, I don’t remember any more.

I came round in recovery obviously feeling very drowsy and this took a short while to shake off. The room got full quite quickly; they do a lot of day care stuff there. I was taken back to the ward and saw my wife sitting there looking very anxious and worried. I asked her how long I had been and she said about two and a half hours. That’s quite a bit longer than the registrar had said!

They did my observations on the ward and I had a couple of cups of tea and a sandwich. We didn’t get out of there for another three hours....... A very long day

I didn’t feel that bad last night although knew I wasn’t going to be able to sleep in bed as needed to be semi upright and have my shoulders and neck supported. Sue knew what to do as she had mastered the pillow and cushion propping from when she had her operation. She also refused to go to bed herself and slept on the other sofa in the living room.

I fell asleep quite quickly but was awake at just gone midnight and couldn’t get back to sleep. I think I eventually dropped off at about 5:30 to 6:00

Sue got up and started to get ready for work and I woke again then, it was about 7:15. I didn’t feel very good quite nauseous and my neck was very sore, Sue felt bad about going to work I know but other people are off and she had to go in and there wasn’t really anything she could do.

I have managed to get about 30mins sleep and I don’t feel that sick now.

The next thing is a PET scan tomorrow................
