went to guys hosptial today with cris to have a blood test to check my genes, it was really informative and hekpful, you normally will only have the brac 1 or 2 mistake genes, basically i have the real brac gene but sometimes it makes a copy of itself, which isnt right and this is the gene that triggers cancer, breast and ovarian in women and prostate and bowel in men. its gene 13 an 17, you get one from mum and one from dad - we think mine dodgy one as i kept calling it is from my dads side!
anyway they are speeding he results for me so hopefully witin 1 month, but who knows she says its very hard to find because its like finding a missing full stop in an encyclopedia.
she has said that once i know it i do have the mistake gene then my dad will be tested, which he has agreed to do! and i wil have a double masectomy and my ovaries removed, then apparently they will stick me on HRT till i am 50 - joy
but if i dont have the masectomy and its the breast one, i have a 80% chance of getting another breast cancer, its just not worth the risk, the ovarian one is a lot lower.
anyway they will send me the results, i have also joined a research prgramme, but which one depends on results
