Adifficult day

Less than one minute read time.

Toni is in a lot of pain still in his rectum but the Palliative Care nurse has just been and she thinks it may be something pressing on the nerve so once again she is springing to the rescue and contacting our GP to arrange for some medication for him.

Otherwise he would be okay. The pain has such a knock on effect in that it makes him feel so down and poorly that he has no appetite and so he isn't eating. He is planning his evening meal however so hopefully he'll be ready for it then. Once I've collected the prescription and he's taken the first dose he should start to feel better. Certainly the Buscopan he was prescribed for the griping colicky pain is working.

So he hasn't got out of bed and doesn't feel like it which is a shame. I always know there will be good and bad days - its just that the bad days can be so hard.

    Hi Claire

So sorry to hear Toni is in pain but as you say, the medication should kick in by his next meal time and he will be able to enjoy his food once more.    I know exactly where you are, head wise, I am going through it with my hubby too.

He has never suffered from the cancer, only the treatments but now he is having a lot of discomfort around his stoma site.  He had a permanent colostomy when he had his bowel tumour removed in April and it is this area that is causing concern now, which will probably be his liver mets.

After all the chemo/radio he has gone through this year it has now been deemed he has cancer cells that are chemo resistant.  So he has been taken off the treatment but are looking into him being Cetuximab tolerant so fingers x'd.  We will know the result on 21st Jan.  Then if that is available the Onc has to go for funding.  We hope it is available and we will try to get it privately.  So at least we have another couple of weeks of hope!

It is so cruel to see them struggling and we cannot help.  It has got to the point where I don't know what to say anymore.  Our Cancer Care Nurse was taken away because the Charity ran out of money and our Macmillan nurse has been away for 3 weeks so we haven't had anyone to turn to.

I managed, this morning to make an emergency appointment with the Onc for next Wednesday to ask if there is anything they can give him.  I have given him some Paracetamol this morning, I hope I have done the right thing?  We were having friends come stay tonight but I have phoned to explain he is not feeling up to it.  They are upset now but that will be the case as other people are not in control of the situation so worry more than us I suppose.

I hope Toni is feeling a little better today and wish you both the best for New Year.  Please keep in touch, it is so nice to be able to write down our moans/fears to someone else who is going through the same thing.

    Cherryl xx
