Wednesday 15th May Radiotherapy planning appointment

2 minute read time.

Since my last post, I have been continuing to feel quite good. I have had a couple days where I felt a bit low. This was mainly from thinking of the people who said they would visit and still haven't after over 4 months. It's like people think that cancer is catching. But at least my Christmas card list is getting shorter.

Today I went for my radiotherapy planning appointment. They gave me a form with tick boxes to fill in then produced a gown to cover my top half. I went to get into the gown and struggled to find enough poppers on the shoulders to keep it in place, but managed to keep it secure in the end.

I was called into the room where I had to confirm the normal name,  address, date of birth etc. They then took a photo of me so they have extra security to make sure its really me next time I go in, I can't see anyone else offering to take my place. I had a lady and a male Radiotherapist and they were both lovely. The male explained what would be happened showed me the size of the tattoo that I would be having.

I climbed up onto the table where they told me to have a wiggle so that I was totally comfortable as I would need to be in the same position each time I go in. They made notes of where knee supports and other things were so next time it's in the same place, while I held onto the handles behind my head. They explained about the breath hold and that there was a screen with a green line at the top. When I was asked to breathe in I had to keep the white line in the middle of the green box. If it goes over or drop below the green line the machine will cut out.

Next the asked if they could remove the gown, not sure what they would of said if I said no :) they marked my breast bone and either side before starting the CT scan process. All was really easy and painless and lasted about 15-20 mins. After all was sorted they did my 3 tattoos the only one I felt was the one on the breast bone. I was told that it might be a few weeks before everything starts as they are really snowed under at the moment, cancer seems everywhere at the moment.

I had a lovely afternoon with my parents and we all went and had our covid boosters.

Tomorrow we are off for our first break away in what seems like years. We are off fishing staying in a lodge on the side of a lake. Packed all the waterproof clothing and the suncream just incase. Even a couple bottles of wine Wine glassto help with the relaxation.

Hope everyone is keeping well and staying positive. I'm 9 months in now, but once everything starts time seems to pass quite quickly. I'm hoping to do more fun things before radiotherapy starts so fingers crossed the weather warms up a bit.

Xxx

  • Hope you have a lovely break.

  • I was quite disappointed with my tattoos; I was hoping to be able to choose a design and instead got three rather tiny blue dots!

I had 25 consecutive days of radio. The staff were absolutely brilliant all the way through; I didn't mind spending my 60th birthday with them!

I did get quite sore towards the end of the radio and the fatigue levels were quite high at the end. And it did take a couple of weeks post the treatment to feel OK again.

Good luck and have a great holiday.

  • Thank you we had a lovely time away, and caught lots of fish. X

  • Likewise with the 3 dots, they look like blackheads, the one in the middle of my chest might get a bit frustrating afterwards.

I haven't a clue when my radiotherapy is going to start, luckily I've only got to have 10 days in total.

I'm expecting to be tired etc but hopefully it won't last for long xx
