Tuesday 7th May 12days post final Paclitaxel & 1st appointment with Radiotherapist

1 minute read time.

I have been doing really good since my last post. I have bumfluff on my head and a couple tiny signs of eyelashes coming back. My weigh isn't really changing yet, but hopefully it will start to come off a bit soon.

Today I had my first appointment with the Radiotherapist. He was really lovely and had a model radiotherapy machine which he used when explaining what would go on. I knew what it was like but for others that probably wouldn't it was a nice touch. He explained I will be having 2 weeks radiotherapy the first 5 days will be targeting the whole of my left breast and the second 5 days will be tumour bed boost, which means they will be targeting just the area where my TNBC was removed when I had my operations.

I will hopefully get a call in the next few days for my planning CT where I have been told I will have 3 small dot tattoos which will be used when I have the radiotherapy so they know where aim. I will have to practice holding my breath for 20 seconds too.

I'm not sure when all this is going to start, but hopefully I'll get the planning appointment quite soon. The rest might not start for another 6 weeks. I'm doing good and going to try and get my life back to normal as much as possible.

Everyone keep your chin up. It's all we can do when cancer throws all this rubbish at us. X

  • Glad you’re feeling better Alison. I’m finally feeling ok on Day 13 after an awful razor throat and aching.
Your radiotherapy appointment sounds very helpful. I have my planning meeting and CT scan on Thursday so I’m practicing breath holding as it will be my left side.  Like you I’m having 5 days followed by another 5 boost days. I’m hoping to have a little break first to let my body recover.
My skin is so thin now - which sun cream did you find was good?
Hope you get the dates through soon so you can plan ahead.
    Keep well and happy xxx

  • Hiya Kaza

I'm pleased to hear your feeling better now, its so draining when you get aces and sore throats are so painful too.

I hope your planning CT goes well on Thursday. Hopefully you will get a few weeks rest before they start your radiotherapy treatments. We are both lefties.

I know our department is really snowed under at the moment so mine will probably be atleast 6 weeks before radiotherapy actually starts.

I'm not sure what the sunscreen is like at the moment as I have only been out in the sun for short periods. The one I have got is Alturist factor 50.  I have always used Calypso once but giving this other one a try as was recommended on FB TNBC group. I am nervous about being out in the sun too long at the moment but want my scalp to tan a bit.

Let me know how Thursday goes.

    Sending hugs.xx

  • I’ll let you know about  radiotherapy dates. I hope there’s a break as my body is tired.

You are brave baring your scalp - I’m always wearing a hat or scarf outdoors but can see some stubble regrowing which is good. I do a lot of gardening so I need to cover up. Thanks for the recommendation- I usually use Roche Posay on my face but need something for arms too. My skin is so thin I’ll probably wear long sleeves and legs till it toughens up a bit!
Hope you hear soon. Love and hugs xxx

  • Hiya Kaza

I have my CT planning appointment on the 15th May.

Fingers crossed we can get away fishing for a week.

Re sunscreen, we have just got some Aldi factor 50 it's got 5 star UVA protection so going to give it a try as Calypso only 4 star.

I am wearing long sleeve tops and Sarong trousers, even putting sun protection on under the trousers.

We had a day out yesterday. Took my hat off for a little while. Xx

  • Hi Alison

Love the photo and hope you manage some fishing - lovely to have the sunshine but so much sun protection needed. I heard the Aldi cream was good.
I got on well at my CT planning appointment and managed to hold my breath for 30 seconds which was a relief. I had 2 lovely young men peering at my chest with the greatest interest which was quite a surreal experience. So I’ve got the dot tattoos - so tiny they hardly show amongst my freckles.
I start radiotherapy on May 29th for 2 weeks. Apparently if my tumour hadn’t been so deep I might have only had 3 days boost so I’ve got to get ready for some long journeys to the hospital as most of my appointments are quite early and I’ll be driving on the rush hour. Not for long though and then all done for a while.
We’re looking after our grandchildren the week before my radiotherapy starts so we’ll have to wait for a break. I feel so much better this week and have been back to yoga and a fitness class which was hard for me but goood. My main problem is terrible watering eyes so I constantly look as if I’m crying.
Anyway keep safe in the sun having fun and let me know how your planning meeting goes xxx
