14th and 15th June confusion and changes

1 minute read time.

Phone call from PETscan people and all arranged for two days time, given “starving” instructions etc. husband booked day off work to take me.

The next day a well-meaning friend insisted that I drop my work and talk urgently to a friend of hers who had also had bowel cancer.

So I phoned her, she talked to me at length, about taking control of your treatment, what had happened to her (fair enough) what I should and shouldn’t eat, I daren’t mention the low-residue  diet, getting Olympic fit for the operation (in less than a fortnight) but overall she was insistent that I rang the hospital and asked for my care to be transferred to somewhere else.

Her call was interrupted by the hospital ringing to book my surgery for 12th July with a different surgeon to the one I was expecting.

After that my friend zoom called me and also said that I must change my care that day and she would speak to the nurses if I wouldn’t.

All this got interrupted by a call from the hospital nurse, as I had phoned to enquire who was doing my surgery.

I’m still not sure who is doing the surgery but the nurse told me that my liver surgery will be done in yet another hospital and that there was a chance that both bowel and liver would be operated on at the same time.

I was in a complete tether, but after speaking to my husband, a colleague and some other friends it was agreed that I shouldn’t do anything rash and there was no reason to believe the hospital I am currently at would not give me good treatment.

Then to cap it all the PETscan people phoned to say the scanner wasn’t working so the appointment would have to be cancelled!
