I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, my friends and family through this time, have been amazing and incredibly supportive! During these strange times that we are in I think it’s safe to say many of them felt a bit helpless than loved ones usually do in these circumstances.
My immediate family were able to help with meals and around the house but due to government restrictions everyone else had to stay away and so we’re forced to come up with more creative ways to show their support.
I must say what this has shown me is that I have the most amazing friends and family, as well as creative bunch of individuals!! The joys they have brought me over the last half year have been enormous which considering what I have been going through is nothing short of a miracle. It has also shown me just how many wonderful, caring people I have around me and I am so grateful!
I won’t embarrass them by naming them but I will tell you about some of the things I was treated to:
Some friends treated me to lipstick selfies every Thursday whilst I prepared for chemotherapy (including husbands for my last session), it boasted my confidence the day I needed it most.
I had more meals delivered than I can count from various people for me and my family, meaning that hubby had one less thing to worry about that day, all were delicious and amazing! One friend delivered me presents every Wednesday prior to my chemo to perk me up before each new positioning. These little touches were so thoughtful.
We were treated to some amazing videos from friends including a new version of the TV show “staged” and a new version of the opening of the tv show friends all staring our friends! I still watch these constantly they never fail to bring a smile and laugh to my face!
Countless thoughtful gifts delivered from chocolates, flowers to mugs which I have to hide in the cupboard as my son can now read and they tell cancer where to go and a piece of homework completed by my niece she had to do on someone who inspired her and she choice me. I also go an amazing chemo survival bag from my sister which went with me weekly on my journey.
But the reason I am writing this post is not to boast but to be thankful that my journey inspired people to take action. One of the videos I received from friends was a film of a relay race they had done as a fundraiser for Macmillan. They ended up raising over £2000. Not being able to do the usual visiting and helping they wanted to give back and so did that and got fit whilst doing it. I have never felt so humbled and happy when I saw the total they have raised.
The trend continues, my friend is currently fundraising now, she will be braving the shave this Saturday! Raising money for Macmillan again. I’m so proud of her and all my friends and family for being there for me, it really means the world to me. Thank you so much.
When this journey is over for me hopefully in the next year I will continue this and never forget the support I have received from family, friends and various charities.
Xx
