Cancer in a time of Covid

1 minute read time.

So like so many people up and down the country our plans for Christmas were changed. We were out into tier 4 so no more parents on Christmas Day.

But for my cancer journey the bigger impact is that I got a call on Boxing Day to let me know that my treatment centre has had to close until 4th January as four of the staff had tested positive for Covid. Thankfully only 1 has symptoms and isn’t too poorly so fingers crossed it stays that way! But it means my treatment is now in question.

Hopefully I will be able to have this week’s treatment in another facility if there is space but if not I will need to miss a week and I’m not sure yet what the consequences of that will be, so after getting into the swing of things it all now fees a bit uncertain again.

Part of the routine for me is to have regular Covid tests and thankfully I had one last week which was negative so other than now having to self-isolate (due to contact with the staff who were positive) I am OK and I can still have my treatment provided there is somewhere for me to go.

So to all of you out there struggling with the ever changing rules and challenges it’s tough and we really do just need to take it one day at a time and look after each other. I also wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to the amazing staff at my usual treatment centre I hope you’re all ok.

As ever take care xx
