Help!confused and concerned... wat happens next???

1 minute read time.

Hi, wanted some advice if anyone can help me?? I have recently had a tumour removed from my bladder a few weeks ago and it was confirmed as cancer a few days ago - I am still reeling from the shock! I am just 33 yrs old and my consultant was not expecting this either, I have been suffering bladder infections and kidney infections for many years but have increased for the past year, a spell in hospital with pain/fever and blood loss led to me having this cystosocopy and retrograde plylogram which led to this discovery. I am told the lump has been removed and will need another cystosocopy in 3  months. I believe it was only'superficial' and had not penetrated deep into lining.I am lucky that it has been caught so early,  but reading through everyones experiences and talking to people i am aware most people receive some localised Chemo as a precaution to lower the risk of returning. I however, was not given this. My doc said it was due to the fact that when he did the op he was not expecting cancer, does that mean i will need to hav this done now or in the next three months or can a tumour be removed succesfully with no medication required???? I am  very worried and feel like I am living some kind of nightmare.. why me??? Does anyone else have this problem and is anyone out there who is also of my age experienced this?? I am aware that Bladder cancer is rare in someone of my age and gender.  any advice would be greating appreciated ... thanks mel :-(

Hi Mel...Got the friend request and thats no problem...I was the same as you for 3 or 4wks after my tummor removal being rather tender in the bladder area..was told to take it easy..no heavy lifting...no bending up and down to much....you.ve had an op and you need to take it easy....but i would mention having a high temp...could be a water infection....try drinking lemon barley water and cranberry juice...it helps me when i get the burning sensation passing water....hope you get some positive news tomorrow..you take care..johnb..xx

Hi Mel, How did you get on with speaking to the specialist?  I had small superficials growths removed from my bladder in March and have had 6 BCG vaccines and a cystoscopy on the 7th Oct which showed no cancer.  I have still to get 3 BCG vaccines next month and another cystoscopy in Feb next year.  I am hoping that the result will be the same and there is no cancer there.  If that is the case I will get cystoscopy every 6 months for a while.  There is nothing that can prepare you for when they utter the words "you have cancer". Please let me know how you get on and feel free to ask me anything.

    Take care

Hi Carol, Thanks for your comments and concern, pleased you are in the clear and you will stay that way! -  I ended up seeing a different consultant and she told me that they would not be doing anymore treatment for the time being - or at least until my next cystoscopy on Jan 7th. So i think they think they have removed all the cancer so that was opitimistic. I did however have another kidney infection and was given anitbiotics - I am having a nuclear scan on wednesday to ascertain why I am in pain in my right kidney ( I have hydronephrosis on it) which they dont know why or wat is causing the chronic pain and infections etc.  May hav to just have the dam thing removed!! I am assured that you can manage with one! ;-)

I am now getting over the intial shock of it all and am sleeping better and feeling positive most days. I am going off to Portugal for the new year as a little  distraction before my next check up!

anyways thanks again and you take care Carol :) xx
