Help!confused and concerned... wat happens next???

1 minute read time.

Hi, wanted some advice if anyone can help me?? I have recently had a tumour removed from my bladder a few weeks ago and it was confirmed as cancer a few days ago - I am still reeling from the shock! I am just 33 yrs old and my consultant was not expecting this either, I have been suffering bladder infections and kidney infections for many years but have increased for the past year, a spell in hospital with pain/fever and blood loss led to me having this cystosocopy and retrograde plylogram which led to this discovery. I am told the lump has been removed and will need another cystosocopy in 3  months. I believe it was only'superficial' and had not penetrated deep into lining.I am lucky that it has been caught so early,  but reading through everyones experiences and talking to people i am aware most people receive some localised Chemo as a precaution to lower the risk of returning. I however, was not given this. My doc said it was due to the fact that when he did the op he was not expecting cancer, does that mean i will need to hav this done now or in the next three months or can a tumour be removed succesfully with no medication required???? I am  very worried and feel like I am living some kind of nightmare.. why me??? Does anyone else have this problem and is anyone out there who is also of my age experienced this?? I am aware that Bladder cancer is rare in someone of my age and gender.  any advice would be greating appreciated ... thanks mel :-(

I know its not very helpful today as its the weekend but I think the best thing to do is write a list of every question you have, anything that is bothering you or you dont understand. Have you been given a key worker or similar? When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I was given the number for the breast care nurses in case I had any questions, did you get anything like this? Then first thing Monday morning give them a call or even call your consultants secretary and ask for an appointment or for him to call you asap. I am sure they will be happy to answer your questions and put your mind at ease. You could also try giving the Macmillan helpline a call too. It is difficult as everyone is so different and because you are a bit of an unexpected case so to speak I think your own Dr would be the best person to speak to.

Sorry I cant be any more helpful than that Mel but this site is great and I'm sure lots of people will see your blog and offer you really useful advice.

    Take care

    Love Chrissi xxx

    Hi mate,

As Chrissi says, you need to start writing down all your questions to ask your doctor/consultant as soon as you can after the weekend.

I was diagnosed with bladder cancer just a few months ago and, although I am older than you, it was an equal kick in the guts blow. However my cancer turned out to be very rare (1 in 1 billion - yep just 40 in the world ever!) and was T4 - which means that it had not only grown through the bladder wall but had also infected my prostate aswell. I have now had surgery and am currently, fingers crossed, cancer free at this time.

I know it's a s**t but we are all here for you. Feel free to get in touch when you want.

    hugs

    Andrew

hi thanks for your advice Chrissi, i think I will make myself a list today so i can ring on monday and bombard my consultant with questions! this is a really good site and I am learning alot as I read information and peoples blogs. I have rang a macmillian nurse a few days ago, and like you say each case is different so probably best to go direct to the doc. Thanks again

Take care and i hope all goes well with you xxxx
