Nearly half way through Chemotherapy

1 minute read time.
Nearly half way through chemo It is the 16th October and I am back in the Beatson for my third cycle of Methotrexate which they have uped to 10,000 mg from 8000 last time and 6000 the first time. I get my ARA-C tomorrow and then all the '"rescue drugs" etc and should get out late Thursday or Friday A.m. That ill be half way through the Chemos. I come back next Tuesday just as a day patient to start the whole cycle again with a dose of BCNU then the following Monday for the next methotrexate at an even higher rate. I am doing much better than expected but it could tart getting tougher soon, but we live in hope. I won't be having the eye radiotherapy until January 2013 then it will be for 4 weeks. I will need two or three visits here in December to get my face mould made and get the planning one etc but that should mean I might be quite good for Christmas. Dr James, my oncologist, has said the radiotherapy is t a lower dose for less time, than I had for my squamous cell carcinoma in my throat and neck so side effects will be less. Good news, I like good news. Mentally I'm in a good place at the moment, pleased virtually all the "paperwork" etc is only a couple of forms waiting for the consultant to sign to sort my pensions out. It really has paid dividends going through all that recent heart ache And others think so too.

Hi Laura Test my consultant is Alan James and yes BCNU bus tolerable. I have had 1 session so far and have another one next Tuesday. I have also had 3 sessions of each high dose Methotrexate and Cytabarine (ARR-C). After my first BCNU my wife drive me to our daughters in South Cumbria without any side effects. I then spent 5 days there meeting family etc and going out for dinner most nights! I did get very tired as the week went on but nothing too bad. I did not have any other side effects as the anti dickness and pain killers I am taking worked very well. How many sessions is she having and what other/ if any treatment is she having if I may ask? I have been in the Beatson since Monday but hope to get out tomorrow. When I have the BCNU it is just as a day case. It only takes an hour to administer but it is the waiting around for blood tests first then they keep an eye on you for an hour or two afterwards. I did get a little bruising at the infusion site as I had not had my Hickman Line inserted at the time. Keep your chin up and take care. Please keep in touch. Magpie Mike x
