Where does life go from here?

1 minute read time.
Hi hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and will have a great new year... On December 22 I went to the drs for a mass around my heart that the drs had found.. Thinking it was something wrong with my heart I was in total shock when the informed me that they are 95% sure its thymoma cancer and that the mass stretches from the base of my throat to underneath my right lung so its of quite extensive size.. I had a bunch of bunch of bloodwork done on tuesday and go see a thoracic surgeon on Jan 2 for consultation. The dr says either way I have to have surgery to remove it and probably chemo and possibly radiation. I have always said if I ever get cancer i didnt want to be opened up in fear of it spreading and now they are telling me I have no choice. I have a wonderful husband who I just married on December 6 and between us we have 6 kids 5 of which live in the home with us... However sometimes it just doesnt feel as though anyone here understands how I feel and whats going on with my body, I know I have constant pain and everything nearly that i eat makes me sick to my stomach. I dont know if the decisions these drs have made is the right decision or not but I have more then one opinion so I guess its just me being terrified... Anyone with any suggestions I am open for them... Its a really high percentage with no biopsy but they say its narrowed down to just a few things it can be and all of them is cancer but thymoma is the one I show all the signs and symptoms of...

I might be wrong but I think that cancer spread isn't affected by whether you have an operation or not - it spreads by itself, or doesn't, depending on the type. Surgery is designed to help you, and as far as I know isn't linked to spreading the cancer. Please, ask the helpline or can someone else say what they think?

    Thank you, Clarity x

    Dear girl,

What a shitty fright to have, just when you were starting a happy new life with your new husband. But I honestly think it's just an old wives' tale that opening you up spreads the cancer. Some people say you mustn't let the air get to it... But I don't think it can be true. Ask an expert.

Anyway, my love, I don't think you have any choice here. I think you're going to have to be brave and go ahead with the sugery and whatever treatment there is to follow. Very scary stuff, I know, but lots of folk on this site have been there, done that, got the tee shirt and are now getting on with their lives.

Do this thing for yourself and for your lovely family and come back and talk to us lot when the going gets tough.

Good luck and God bless from Shelagh

The 1st thing I thought when they told me that I had cancer in my lung and liver, was thank god they can cut it out, unfortunatley that wasn't to be as my cancer is small cell cancer, and apparently whilst their cutting it out of one place it could be attacking another, so the only way to treat it,(I say treat, because apparentley its also incureable) is with Chemo, and if that works then Radium, So you see I was frightened by not being able to have an op, horses for courses my friend all we can do is trust our Dr's and keep positive.Good luck with your surgery, post a blog when your feeling better.

Hello my name is Lisa nd in Sep, my husband was diognosed with thymus cancer, when going in for the biopsy they decided it was to close to the heart to do surgery and all the reserch I have done surgery is the best treatment for this so if you have that option I would do it. He is now going through radiation and chemo everyday with hopes of shrinking it enough for surgery in the future, I have heard from so many doctors that this is very rare and not a lot of studies are out there good luck and keep posting you are the only other person I have heard of with this
