Back to square one

Less than one minute read time.

Had a scan on Friday. Got results yesterday.

Went in to clinic expecting good news as I have felt so well. Came out thoroughly depressed.

Chemo (Cisplatin Etoposide) has stopped working on some of the tumours and others are appearing. Some are still shrinking. It looks like they are going to decide to stop my current chemo and they are considering an alternative chemo called Topotecan. Or, they might give me radiotherapy on some of the tumours. The one in my brain seems to worry them the most as its growing quite quickly (now 24mm). Its worrying me just a bit to!!!!

Anyway – they’re trying to get me in for an urgent MRI so that they can see why my neck is giving me gip and they’ll decide next Wednesday what happens next.

I know everyone says that you have to stay positive but sometimes its reallty hard.

    Sorry to hear your news.

My 64 yo dad has stage iv glioblastoma (brain tumour) and is currently five weeks in to a six week radiotherapy regime. No terrible ill effects apart from a slightly burnt head. Good luck.

I may have just started the process and honeslty they aren't even sure so I won't pretend I understand but my heart goes out to you. I hope for the best and I'll stay positive enough for the both of us ok? Let me know if I can help in any way, even if all I can do is listen or give you a pep talk.

    Hi Steve,

I am so sorry the results are not what you were expecting. It is hard to stay positve and is only natural to have down days, as long as you remember to come "up" again. There are some positives if you can think of them that way. Firstly, you are feeling well at present and that is a big plus. Secondly, they are talking about alternative treatments so there is the hope that something may yet work well. I will keep everything crossed that the treatment they decide upon has the desired effect and kicks this disease where it hurts!

Take care and very best of luck,

                         lizzie xx

    Hi Steve,

My husband also has extensive sclc, it is in his lungs, liver and lymph nodes, he was diagnosed last December.

He had 6 rounds of carboplatin and etopside at the beginning of the year, he then had radiation to his lungs and pci to the brain as a preventative measure.

He had a recurrence in september and is now on another chemo called CAV. He is doing well currently.

I am surprised that you have not been offered WBR (whole brain radiation) for your brain mets.

    I wish you well

    Regards

    Mo
