The wonderful world of financial institutions....

1 minute read time.

As if the banks didn't have the lowest reputation possible already...... having moved house relatively recently, I took out a new mortgage (no problem with that), and went to the same bank, with whom I've had mortgages for the past 15 years or so, to arrange life assurance to cover the mortgage term.

Being truthful , I was completely straight about my condition, and, being the generous understanding souls that they were, they thid not "refuse" me cover, but sggested they were "unable to at this time", and would be happy to hear from me in a year's time....

If anything highlights the the flaws in the capitalist system, red in tooth and claw, then this was it.....

I think I'm actually shocked more by this, than the actual cancer diagnosis. The cancer diagnosis was people telling me about a natural state, however undesirable -  the refusal of life insurance was people saying, "we've been more than happy to take money of you when, you're well, in case you got ill, but now you are actually ill, we're avoiding you like the plague because we can't make a sure buck out of you...." - nice !

Throws all these nice TV ads, showing how caring these banks all are, into somewhat sharp relief......should say " We love you - when you're profitable...."

I know where you are coming from. We moved just over a year ago - that is pre cancer diagnosis - when they thought I just had an enlarged prostate. They told me then to "come back in 6 months".

Now that I've got cancer me thinks I'm out of luck for a long long time!

Private medical insurance? They would be happy to take me on except for the exclusion of any pre existing condition and anything that they could link to it!

    Thank god for the NHS!!!!!

    All the best

Way back in the 80's when i informed about my Crohn's disease i was send for a medical by the Mortgage linked Insurance company, they covered me but with a loading for my condition :(

Now i'm lucky in a way that i don't want life cover & know if i did ask for it i'd be refused.

It's been bad enough with holiday insurance over the years.
