Pain in thigh after Hyst. Why??

Less than one minute read time.
My mum had her hyst. two and half weeks ago ..wound healing and swelling gone down .. but she is complaining of pain in her thigh and when she touches it, it feels numb. Rang the helpline and they say might be a trapped nerve ?? She was supposed to have her appointment at the hospital but they canx as some of the results arent back .. Has anyone else had this kind of thing ? is it maybe something to do with the lymph glands they removed ... Lympowassit ?? Please help??

    Hi Karen,

I had a hysterectomy and lymph node removal four years ago and the syptoms you are describing are that of lymphodeama which i have. The pain and the numbness will go but she will probably always have the swelling as the lymph fluid is trapped. There is a technique she can use called lymphatic drainage which will help the condition but unfortunately it is not cureable but manageable. If she speaks to her oncoligist they should be able to put her in touch with a specialist attached to the hospital.

    I hope this helps,

    Debbie

I had been warned about Lymphodema before she had the op but werent sure what the symptoms were ..

She will be pleased it is nothing to be overly concerned about .

    Hi Karen

I had a hysterectomy 6 weeks ago and I had numbness down my right outer thigh. This has now worn off . Hopefully it will be the same with your mum. I find I have some internal aches and pains but I have to remember that a hysterectomy is a serious operation and will take time to heal. It is difficult to find out what is to be expected and what is not. Perhaps some one can help.

Hello, I just wanted to share what I was told when the same sensation happened to me.

As others have stated, it is likely a damaged or entrapped nerve. Although common after certain types of surgery, doc's rarely offer advanced warning of this prior to surgery. I'm told that its due to not wanting to admit they screwed up, since a good surgeon tries not to leave their patient with nerve issues.
