Mum's Consultation !!

Less than one minute read time.
We went to the consultant appointment this morning . She is having a radical hyst, with lymph glands too on 20th...They are referring to Christys for Radio / Chemo after her operation . She is quite worried as he mentioned it might be part of her bowel too and might need a stoma ... She has been on sick for two weeks and her boss is already pressuring her to hand in her notice , as she hasnt got enough to worry about !! Walked in the waiting room and there was only a old mate, young mum ,in there for treatment too , this ******* disease dont leave anyone alone !! Feeling very angry right now ! Karen

Hi Karen, good luck to your mum for the 20th, hope it all goes well.  You're quite rightly angry just now, but try to save your energy to support your mum.  It is a b*****d disease.  Best wishes to you and your family, Christine xx

Don't get mad, get even.  Especially don't let your mum give in her notice.  She is entitled to sick pay for at least 8 weeks and accrued holiday pay, and heaven knows what else.  Talk to Macmillan.

Don't worry too much about the bowel at this stage.  You may find that when it comes right down to it, they may not have to take much or any of the bowel.  She might not have to have a stoma.  Even if she does, it might be reversible, and people do get used to managing it when they have one.  Take it one stage at a time.  The surgeon will have warned of a worst case scenario, so just smile and say you know he will do his best to limit the damage.  Even so, it is better to get it all out and give her the best chance of a full recovery isn't it?  I had a hemicolectomy and lost half my bowel, and I haven't got a stoma.  Never had one.

So do your worrying in 5 minute blasts in daylight, and catch up on your sleep.  Then you can stay calm around your mum.  She will do her best to stay calm, because in spite of being very ill, she is still your mother and will want to reassure you.  The least you can do is show you are reassured.  It is only 4th July now.  See if you can get away for a few days together and bond closer.  Lots of love and fun places to go, by a river, or sea to build yourselves up.  The stronger she is, the easier she will take the op.

Go for it, and stay close.

    I hope this helps
