Remission/Cure

Less than one minute read time.

When does the 5 years begin when a person is then considered in Remission/Cured.

Is it from the moment the cancer is removed from the body?

Is it from the end of treatment.

What if the treatment is adjuvant ( back up after surgery)

Do's anybody know?

Love Julie X

I understand it is five years from surgery although some cancers can sneak back after that. This might be a question for the 'Ask a nurse' service offered by Macmillan.

    Hi Julie,

I think is from when you have finished your treatment.

5 yrs after that. At least thats what I was told. Good Luck.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xxx

Hi Julie, I was told I would be given the all clear after five years from the end of treatment, so effectively that was six years as the treatment lasted nearly a full year.

I was told it's from when to stop having treatment, including any drugs, ie tamoxifen etc which has to be taken for 5 years, I tried to get insurance after 5 years, and was told cos I was on cancer drugs, I had to be 5 after I stopped them
