Plodding along..

Less than one minute read time.
It's been a while since I updated, so thought I'd just ramble a while... Barry has had his op, Pleuradesis, and is doing well now. I say now as he had a terrible wound infection a fortnight after the op, we had to phone NHS direct to get an appointment at the local-ish 'walk in centre'. I must say I was very impressed, the doctor was waiting for us (Like in a parallel universe..) prescribed him some antibiotics and off we went, all in10 minutes. He's still having the wound dressed by the disrict nurses, but it looks much better today. The op itself was a much bigger procedure than we anticipated..2 hours in the theatre..5 days in hospital.. We went for the results last week and the consultant wasn't there, the registrar didn't seem all that clued up and I'm not really happy with the info we were given. Although he said 'its good news, the biopsies have come back, all benign' he never explained the fact that the xray form said 'Fibrosis'...I've looked on t'internet, fibrosis is another name for asbestosis... I HAVE WRITTEN A LIST OF QUESTIONS FOR OUR NEXT APPOINTMENT!!

  • Hi Jude,

I do think these doctors live on a parallel universe where they speak their own brand of gobbledygook. Mind you, all 'experts' have their own language!  You can't be expected to understand every nuance of medical jargon so I'm glad you have your prepared list of questions. May I also recommend taking a small tape-recorder so you can listen to answers again at your leisure. You will probably need to ask the doctor's permission to record the conversation but I can't imagine they'd object.

    Hope all goes well,

    KateG

Oh thats a good idea, Kate, thanks for the suggestion! It's so hard to remember everything that is said, or not said in some cases!
