Hi Jim I have a stoma and honestly it is very manageble.

Funnily enough I am 56 too and had a Dukes C tumour only mine burst and I had no choice but to have a stoma.

I am about to have it reversed but to tell you the truth if for some reason they tell me it has to stay it wouldn't be the end of my world.

Good Luck with yours Love Julie X

I had the same as you - chemo, radiotherapy and then an APR - removal of the anus and rectum. I have got a stoma which behaves itself until I miss behave. It's a year tomorrow since I had my operation - I had 7 hours on the table, 4 hours in recovery, 2 dys intensive care, two days high dependency, five weeks in hospital and three months in bed. I never thought I would ever get to where I am now. My blog on here - the demise of roland ratso goes through my journey followed by the revenge of Roland Ratso (I called my tumour Roland Ratso) If you need any info don't hesitate to ask.

    Keep smiling

    Hi Jim

I'm sorry that the news wasn't better but there is a plan and hopefully a known outcome which should give you confidence about the future. Drew has come though a similar operation and is doing well, so stay positive.

    Good luck

The good new is, they have a plan! We'll all be there supporting you, and as others have said, there are friends on here who have been through the same op and can give advice. I have met Drew, Kezzerbird and Julie, all of them have a stoma, and believe me, you would never know. They all live life to the full!!

    Take care
