hospital, school, that seems to be life at the minute

2 minute read time.

Well it was yet another visit to the hospital today, I think it was my 12th since the end of July. As usual the clinic was running late, over an hour behind schedule. Settled down with my book. Now normally I can read anywhere and anything, but hospital waiting rooms  are one place that I cannot concentrate. So even though I read pages and pages, not much of the story line has sunk in! Eventually got to see the doctor and was in and out in minutes ( again as usual.) Zometa will begin on Monday, but first the blood test. AGGGH! I have at the minute one vein that will give blood with an intense amount of coaxing and boy did we have to coax it!!! My tummy was flipping one way and another, but at last the vein gave up its precious fluid. Got home though to find the unit had telephoned, would not give info to husband but did say it was nothing to worry about so must ring in the morning. Had to ring doctors to cancel flu jab which was booked for same time as zometa. Unfortunately they are only doing a two week flu clinic and they could only fit me in on Friday morning which is not possible as I am in class. So no flu jab ( I can’t say I am all that bothered though I did not really feel like having it.) The phone rang, an ex pupil had heard that I had been ill and rang to see how I was. It was so nice hearing her voice. I taught her when she was 5 and again at 7. She is 17 now and still thinks fondly of me (I must be doing something right!!) So she has put me in her prayers.

My hair which was brunette and dead straight before chemo has grown back steel grey and curlyish. Strangely my parting has also changed sides. I was on playground duty yesterday and one of my “little darlings” came up to me and said “ Can you dye your hair now?” I said probably and we then had a discussion regarding the possible colour. Her idea? Fuschia pink!!! No, not quite what I had in mind. I now have to psyche myself up to write comments for parent’s evening next week. Oh bother! I suppose I should start……well maybe in half an hour.

Take care everyone

Love

  • Hi Kath,

Not being able to read in hospital waiting rooms... you are NOT alone! I find my eyes are scanning the words but the message is not reaching my brain. I suppose fear does scramble the process and we can all sympathise.

I hope you are making time for some 'fun' too. Yes, perhaps fuschia pink hair would be fun and certainly raise a few eyebrows!

    Best wishes,

Dont worry about the flu jab, mine made me feel crap, hot flushes, sweats. Had one a year for 10 years now, first one thats bothered me. As for reading, it was my GP's 'locum' practise nurse who gave it me and took my bloods etc. She then said 'Oh I cant find your notes' She had taken bloods, read some 'Franklin Scale' or other upside down, given me an injection, never asked about pre existing conditions [like lung cancer], never asked or checked about allergies. I dont think its only us patients who have difficulty reading. LOL
