Well that was fun :)

1 minute read time.

Another long day yesterday, Peter had a PICC inserted and  2 units of blood. How grateful we are to the army of blood donors who give so generously and make these transfusions possible, if they could see Peters pink cheeks, oh! don't get me started on the If's again.

The PICC dressing needed changing today, I  volunteered even tho Its a long time since I donned a pair of sterile gloves, and we didn't have PICC'S in my day, I said no need for a district nurse to come out.I have skills ( don't I ? )

Oh Yes I remember the stainless steel dishes and forceps we sterilized on the ward. the bandages we rolled and the gauze we cut etc.

But today I was faced with an alien pack of assorted items including paper sheets, snap sterile wash spongy thing. and a see through sticky dressing that resembled cling film and seemed to have a natural desire to stick to the blue gloves rather than the intended site on Peters arm.

Peter held the destructions to read out each step, well, that was the plan until I found I need at least another 3 hands to hold the tube up while maintaining the kink and clean underneath and round entry wound. At that point Peter dropped the book and grabbed the sterile tube lock yanking it out of the way so I could get the massive spongy snap washy thing underneath.

I called him a bleep bleep, he said your the bleep bleep and the rest of the procedure was utter chaos, the sticky see through film is on albeit crumpled. I wrote the date on as instructed but its illegible as we were shaking with  laughter.

The tubigrip instruction was so confusing I had to phone the medical day unit for clarification.

This was an intended rest day re-discovering the joy of jigsaws and a rematch at draughts. instead it has been another learning curve on this journey. and a hoot.......

We decided not to have all the fun on one day we will tackle fitting  the seal tight protector which will allow Peter to take a shower tomorrow.

So I have to sleep with a Dirty Boy :) tonight. xx
