'Cotton' Cancer Anniversary

1 minute read time.

A year ago Peter and I were ushered into a small room with a sofa and a box of tissues.  we looked at each other and knew.......before the endoscopist, who had just had a squint down Peter's gullet said

There is a large tumour in your oesophagus and it is cancer.

It is our  cotton (1st) cancer anniversary tomorrow ........... today we have been ushered into a small room with a couch and a box of tissues....we looked at each other and knew.... before the consultant said...........

This is not so good it seems we have progression. Tumour markers  are soaring. coupled with Peter's increasing symptoms

Plan is 2 units of blood on Monday , CT & PET Scan next week then look at options.

So what to do tomorrow on our anniversary

we intend to have a lie in, then breakfast of runny porridge while watching the birds in the garden,

read the papers, talk to friends and family on the phone

lunch chicken complan soup and icecream.

an afternoon siesta until the evening when we will  raise a glass of fortisip before going to see Jethro at the Theatre Royale for a jolly good laugh......

And then Peter and I  will step up to round 2 together.

Oh Mushty so sorry to read this. It's such a shock  - as you know, I know how you feel. You are quite right - take it a step at a time, see the scans, and look at the options. I know that you and Peter will face it head on together, and are more than worthy opponents for round 2. Enjoy a laugh together tomorrow evening, and D and I will raise a glass of something in liquid form with you. My love and hugs of support to you both xx

Hi TinaM Thank you for your good wishes and encouragement.

The 'Anniversary' celebrations kicked off early today with the arrival of Peter's first Blue Badge.

I hope chemo got started yesterday and that D will tolerate and benefit from this next onslaught.

We do seem to trail along behind you two and think of you's often.

We will chink virtual glasses with you tonight. *Cheers *

    Take care, stay strong

    Love Mushty X

I'm so sorry to hear, I don't think my dad is far away from this - facing his 5th round of chemo this week. But he and mum do the same - runny porridge and a cup of tea and watch all the birds on the feeders and trying to pull up worms. My heart goes out to you. Xxx

    Hello Mariemarie,

I am glad  your Mum and Dad enjoy the birds as we do. It takes minimal effort yet gives us a nice topic to chat about, we do the RSPB bird count each year and that is always a laugh as we argue about what birds we see. and tick the wrong boxes.

Your Dear Dad will be digging deep now at cycle 5 it is a tough slog. I do feel for you all.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Take care, stay strong Mushty X
