Body Building

1 minute read time.

Easter Monday the weather here was lovely so Peter and I took our 3 Grand Children to a boot fair, Peter was very happy poking about the stalls we took a walking seat so he could rest and stopped for a picnic lunch halfway round. it was smashing so normal, he bought more plants for the garden, the children roamed around on their own with a little bit of pocket money which they all spent on books, not surprising as they are all avid readers,

Then the weekly hospital day went very well yesterday.

Peters tumor markers are continuing to fall having gone from 705 to 25, his blood tests are all satisfactory as were his observations, he is tolerating the regime with minimal side effects, and a PICC line was sited in his other arm,

The main ongoing concern is his weight loss.

Peter has never been a foodie, he would only ever eat if he was hungry and had time, hence his amazingly good shape for his years, sadly the effect of the chemo radiotherapy stent and lifestyle change have almost eradicated his appetite.

He is well aware he should eat and he has the ability but no desire for food at all.

So yesterday his team prescribed low dose steroids and citalopram  which hopefully will increase his appetite and halt the slide.

We have a hospice appointment today for symptom control review and then when I have done his dressings, flush and patch change, the day is ours.

I plan on us enjoying a lite lunch in the garden followed by a siesta and dinner and a DVD this evening. I am unsure when Peter's "voracious" appetite will kick in, but I am so looking forward to preparing a meal for us to enjoy together.

Best wishes to you all here, stay strong x

    Hi Mushty,

I'm glad that you and Peter had a good Easter, but sorry to hear he's loosing so much weight. I hope that the change in medication helps with his appetite.

I just wanted to let you know that, if it's helpful, you can download a free Macmillan booklet on the building-up diet - it's got tips and recipes for boosting energy intake when someone's appetite is poor.

Hi Mushty, so glad to read another positive update, and glad that you had such a nice, normal weekend. The steroids should kick in pretty quickly, and I hope that Peter has you cooking up a storm soon! Much love and hugs xx

Managing to be pretty normal at moment also, Mushty. D had his chemo reduced a little, as it was playing havoc with his hb, and he is feeling better and has more energy. We managed a few nights away over the Easter weekend, and treated ourselves to some lovely rest and relaxation. So an even keel here also - everything crossed that it continues for as long as possible for both our boys. xx
