The local general hospital phoned on Monday in the late afternoon, and squeezed me in a last minute appointmment for the following day. It was to check out the reflex's of the foot I injured before the cancer was originally discovered by accident on Friday 13th August, the day I had my first endoscopy after a previous MRI scan discovered a hardness in my gullet. The neurologist must send her report directly to the surgeon who is going to hopefully operate, the one I am meeting next Tuesday on the 26th, before I start my second course of chemo.
I got rid of my air-boot contraption and crutch on the third week of September. I had to, to get through the second part of the fitness test on my birthday up at The Marsden in London. The reflexes have returned and not much of a problem any more, but I guess they need to be 100% certain before they operate.
Since I adopted a new sitting position especially in front my computer instead of resting one leg over the other as I used to, the symptoms have stopped and all concerned seem to agree the position was affecting my outer right calf muscle, also the nerve that controls the ankle muscle.
Oh Gawd! The consultant was a cross between Miss Whiplash, and a Nazi storm trooper, talk about her being strict and me being nagged to death ! I did alright, she had me doing lots of exercises and can see the vast improvement in my right foot. No more air-boot contraption and I can walk normally. The worst was when she tickled the souls of my feet - with me nearly jumping through the ceiling.
There's just a very small neurology problem still, but I did remind her that was maybe due to a stretched Achilles tendon when I originally injured myself putting on a pair of jeans in August, which she accepted. I told her about me sitting with one leg over the other, and yes I am absolutely right. It really messes up the nerve that controls the ankle muscle. She said I should be a neurology consultant and then nagged me doolally about resting my elbows on the chair arm rests I was sitting on. I thought that's what they were for, but she snapped at me "arm rests are for arms, not elbows," then I heard all about the dangers of modern living. I butted in and asked her if she was married and if so, do you nagg your old man the way you are nagging me ? Yes I do !! Although I felt exhausted due to chemo, I was really glad to get away from her presence and fell asleep on the bus going home. I will hear the findings of her report when I meet the surgical team this Tuesday 26th.
It's the last major report before the surgeon finally makes up his mind as to whether or not he will operate - fingers crossed.
