Treatment starts tomorrow.....

Less than one minute read time.

I have to be at the Royal Marsden at the crack of dawn tomorrow to have my mask made.  Then back in the afternoon for my first blast of radiotherapy to my brain.  Only five sesions in all but they have warned me that as it is my whole brain my hair may fall out!!!!.  The treatment MAY bring back the feeling in my left hand, but no promises.

So if anyone else says "IT WAS ONLY a MOLE"  please may I thump them?

Please wish me luck,

Gill x

Wishing you all the luck in the world, Gill!  And you certainly have my permission to thump anyone who uses the words only and mole in the same sentance, in fact I'll thump em for you!!

    Hope it all goes well!

Wishing you good luck for tomorrow.   I know what you mean.   My daughter had a mole in her tummy and the doctor said it was nothing to worry about.   Two years later and after getting a second opinion, it was removed and she was left with a long scar.   It was pre-cancerous cells so she was lucky but had I not got a second opinion who knows!   She was only 16 at the time!   Anyway will be thinkiong about you tomorrow.

    Keep smiling

Gill please be prepared for your hair to fall out, I know I had 33 sessions but mine was only to a portion of my brain and it fell out within days of starting.  Indie had whole brain RT and hers all fell out too. It does regrow, albeit patchy.  Hope you have a big old tub of aqueous cream ready.

I found the loss of the hair the worst part of my entire treatment so far - even though I know its a small price to pay for a few more years tumour free!

What kinda mask you getting? A mesh one or a clear plastic shell?  The Brainstrust UK have a 'roadshow' going on at the moment, travelling the country with a treadmill for people to walk to raise awareness.  Alongside they have a small exhibition called "behind the mask".  They have all sorts of RT masks that people have decorated in various ways.  Very interesting and some ingenious decorating!

Good luck, you will be in my thoughts and not a million miles as I am only in Essex.

    Keep us posted.

Hi Gilly, i dont know about the mesh mask, but i do know about the perspex one.  If you are like me and somewhat claustophobic, you may like to ask for a sedative.  I didn't know to ask that!   That said, some people describe having the mold made as having a facial.  I was with the Marsden as well and am a board member, your in the best hands.  I wish you good luck with your forthcoming treatment.  F
