Treatment starts tomorrow.....

Less than one minute read time.

I have to be at the Royal Marsden at the crack of dawn tomorrow to have my mask made.  Then back in the afternoon for my first blast of radiotherapy to my brain.  Only five sesions in all but they have warned me that as it is my whole brain my hair may fall out!!!!.  The treatment MAY bring back the feeling in my left hand, but no promises.

So if anyone else says "IT WAS ONLY a MOLE"  please may I thump them?

Please wish me luck,

Gill x

Thanks for your support.  I am having a mesh mask and as I have never had any problems with MRI scans not too worried about it.

Debs, I never realised I was so vain, it's really bothering me about losing my hair.  Does the RT burn the scalp?

Foxilady, I feel I am so lucky to be with the Marsden.  I go to the Sutton site as it is near my home.

At the moment I am just feeling so sad as I know I will lose my hair and they really just can't do anything for me as they can't operate.

Just get tomorrow over and I am sure I will bounce back.

  • Hi Gill,

I'm a patient at Sutton too - brilliant hospital. Good luck with your treatment.

    Hi Gill,

I hope your first day of treatment hasn't been too difficult & that the rest goes as seamlessly as possible. I'm so sorry to hear there is a chance you will lose your hair. I hope you are given plenty of support to deal with it, both physically (wigs) and emotionally.

I wonder why these ruddy things are called 'moles' - is it because they are even more unwelcome than the animal equivalent? They produce lumps too but the 'mole catcher' and his dynamite isn't quite the answer to our problems!

So yes, you have my permission to thump anyone who makes such an inane comment - they deserve putting in traction for their stupidity!

    Thinking of you Gill,

Love & best wishes, Angie x

That's 4 of us living near the Marsden.  Might be a good time to meet for coffee (Kate, Sharry and I know one another already) and give some support to Gilly and the rest of us too.  Any others local to Marsden can join in too.
