Low white cells again on ABVD chemo

Less than one minute read time.

Couldn't have my ABVD chemo today, white cells very low again. I'm disappointed but as this is the second time it looks like I'll be having the growth hormone injections to boost the bone marrow. The white cell should be back up to treatment level by next week (they were last time). I've only had 3 treatments but it seems to happen on the first of each pair, ie 1a and 2a, the centre I go to says this is normal and I may only need injections with the first chemo (ie the as). On the positive side it means no side effects this week.

hiya, i used to have ABVD to, and i had to use the injections all the way through chemo, as i became very nuetropenic after the first 2 chemos and ended up in hospital with an infection...

i hope you white cells start reboosting in time for your next chemo... but i would recommend you have the injections to keep your chemo's on time. theres nothing worse than being gutted because your delayed, specially near the end =)

i will say the injections tend to give you bone ache, so i used to do them just before bed, as then i was resting to stop my bones aching =)

    Hi Gill,

Hope your white cells start to reboost in time for your next chemo. All the best and Good Luck.

  • Hi Gill

I'm having these injections after every chemo and they really seem to work, my white blood cell count went up between 1a and 1b. I get a really weird spasm-type ache across my back about 24 hours afterwards. Ibuprofen seems to take the edge off it and my consultant said that was fine to take. Good luck!

    Hi Hayley

Thanks for your comment. You were lucky to get the injections straight away and not have any delay with the chemo. I've felt quite down with this being the second delay but hope with the injections it won't happen again. I'll wait and see if I get the same kind of side effects!
