Where do I begin!

1 minute read time.
Already I've been through so much, it doesn't quite seem possible! On 25th July I went into hospital to have my lymph nodes removed, a mastectomy, and a reconstruction. I knew it was a big operation but having the opportunity to 'get it all sorted' at once really helped me - I just wanted to come out looking as 'normal' as possible. My recovery has been slow but good, and I started chemo last week. My prognosis is good and I consider myself incredibly lucky as I have so many positives in terms of prognosis that I'm going to beat this. My family & friends have been unbelievably supportive and I've felt quite humbled by their concern and thoughtfulness. My poor husband (a teacher) has spent the six weeks holiday ferrying me about but I'm so grateful he's been around, it's made things so much easier to cope with. And now with the summer coming to an end, we are all thinking of our returns back to work & school. I'll miss not having the family around but I think we're all ready for some normality and routine. It will be good for me to have something else to focus on too, rather than just waiting for my hair to drop out! So here's to the start of a new chapter!

    Hi Sally,

Welcome to the Online Community. I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad that your prognosis is positive and that your husband, family and friends are so supportive.

I hope that blogging here on the site is a helpful outlet for you during your chemo. As well as blogging, you might be interested to know that we also have a breast cancer group on the site. If you join and post in there, you will find lots of people going similar experiences to you.

Another really good way to get support is to give our team a call on the Macmillan Support Line. They can provide lots of expert information if you have questions - or they can just be there to listen if you need to talk. It's free to call and the number is 0808 808 0000 (Mon-Fri, 9am-8pm).
