Waiting for results

Less than one minute read time.

Due to see the consultant tomorrow.  He will have the results from the ultrasound-guided biopsy done two weeks ago.  What will he tell me? Up till now my diagnosis has been 'probable' rather than confirmed or certain.  If I have bone secondaries, how did they get there?  The answer is in the blood stream.  This must mean that secondary seedlings could have reached anywhere, from bones to brain, but apparently have decided to settle in my pelvic bones.

I call my bicalutamide tablets "weed-killer".  As a gardener I understand using chemicals to treat a lawn in the hope that all those weeds will die.  But we know there is a risk that some will be missed and that they tend to come back.  I have been on weedkiller just over two months now.

I was working in the garden this morning and my left hip region and the bone I sit on (ischial tuberosity) are sore.  Recently they have been much better. Does this mean that the local weed there had become active again?

    Hi David,

Welcome to the site, but I'm sorry you need to be here. Waiting for results is the pits! We imagine all sorts of things!

Firstly, don't jump the gun until it is confirmed that you have PCa worrying about things that may never happen won't help. The results from the biopsy will tell you whether you have cancer and how aggressive it is. If the results are positive, then you will have a bone scan, sometimes Xrays, especially if you have arthritis, and an MRI scan. These tests are all to show your multi-disciplinary team what they are dealing with.

I recommend you get the free "Toolkit" from the Prostate cancer charity; I found this very useful in understanding the treatment possibilities, and the side effects. Hopefully you won't need it. You can get it from their free helpline 0800 074 8383 open during office hours Mon - Fri.

Good luck with your biopsy results, but if positive, rest assured that, if caught early PCa can be cured, but with modern drugs, even the most advanced cancer can usually be controlled for years.

    Dear Rose Petal,

I'm sorry to hear of your poor outlook, but you have posted this in the wrong place. This is a blog about Prostate cancer, where survival rates are very good.

I suggest you post in the head and neck cancer group where you will find people better able to help and support you.

Thank you Rose petal for your kind thoughts.  As you will see from the blog, the diagnosis was confirmed but I am already on the right treatment and my immediate outlook is bright.

I am so sorry to read of your plight and hope that things turn out better than you expect.  Although paddyman has written to say you posted in the wrong place (!) I was very glad to receive your comment. If you go to the group he advises you will find lots of positive help and support for your particular type of cancer.

    I wish you well
