Moles!

Less than one minute read time.
Hi guys! I am wondering if anyone can tell me,does a mole have to be dark in colour for it to be melanoma??this might sound like a daft question but when i saw the dermatologist when i was having my first mole removed she said that she would generally only be concerned if a mole was dark in colour. I had another mole that i asked her to check on my stomach which she said was fine as it was light in colour, however this mole has increased in size it is a lightish colour with dark flecks through it,it has irregular edges and now has a light ring around it.I was at my gp today and he is referring me to get it removed straight away as he is concerned about it!Im a bit confused as the dermatologist seemed to think it was ok when i seen her b4 xmas as it wasnt dark coloured!! I hope u can make sense of this,i do go on a bit! Gemma xx

    hi sarah,

yeah i kind of guessed that all melanomas are different, the one i had on my leg was very dark and the consultant said thats what they tend to look for.

they had thought the 1 on my leg was benign until the results came back so i guess thats why im extra cautious!

thanx for all your comments guys!m apt is on 11th may to see dermatologist so i will let u all know how it goes.

    xx

Not true. My MM  looked like a cyst and so  everyone was misled for quite a while.

In fact it seemed to be under a layer of skin -- quite odd.  But then moles  tend to hide underground!

Ask for biopsy just to be on the sure side.

    Hi Gemma,

Sorry you are having a stressful time. I can tell you that my melanoma was light brown in colour with bits of black in it so you are probably best to have your mole removed. Hopefully your GP is just being cautious but if my GP hadn't been I would be in a much worse position now. I know what you mean about 'having this hanging over you for a long time', I feel exactly the same. I have loads of moles, none as large as the melanoma I had removed but smaller ones that are dark or have dark patches in them. I am planning to make an appointment to get those checked out, don't fancy waiting until my first hospital check up in August!

Fingers crossed that your results come back clear, keep us informed and try not to worry too much.

    Good luck for today Gemma.

I had a large one removed last year, which was malignant. A week ago I had a small one removed from my arm, which was blue/black and kind of more raised than it had been. I get the stitches out this Friday, but its no-where near as bad as my leg was so i'm not overly worried about it. Its been fine, haven't even had any pain from having it removed.  I haven't had the biopsy results yet, but my nurse is on holiday until next week....no news is good news then.....

Hope all ok today for you.
