Pazopanib (Votrient)

Less than one minute read time.

Hi

Mum had her appointment with the consultant on Monday, they are sending her for some scans and blood tests to see if she is able to go onto taking Pazopanib (Votrient ®).

Given us lots of information on it but obviously still not sure what to expect but hopefully she is able to go onto something that could possibly prolong her time with us... has anybody had any experiences of this type of treatment, anything that will help us know what we could expect etc?

Thank you in advance for your advice and help.

    Hi Emma

My husband was on this earlier this year as a clinical trial, his cancer spread from his oesophagus to his liver and lymph nodes.  He was well enough to start the trial, but it made him very poorly, terrible diarrheoa. But he didnt take the tablets the doctor gave him for about 4 weeks and in that time he lost alot of weight.  His hair also got greyer.  Unfortunately my husband ended up in hospital with a bad throat infection and the clinical trial team had to take him off the trial drug, and he sadly passed away in July.

However, I have read very positive reports about this medication, but some people do have very tough side effects.  Hope your mum is able to tolerate it ok.

    Take care

    Hi Ally

Firstly I am sorry to hear the sad news about your husband.

We are definately weighing up the pros and cons to the drug, I feel she is in two minds as to what she wants to do, my sister is getting married early next year and she is worried she wont be well enough if she is taking it.

However fingers crossed, as you said, if she does go on it the side effects wont be too bad. I guess we will never know unless she tries!!

Thank you for your comment and words of advice.

    Hi Emma

    Thank you for your blog.

I think the best thing will be to try it, and any side effects for your mum to tell her consultant immediately.  Hopefully your mum will be ok on them , and has good results from them.

    Take care
