But waiting results, just feel like I am in void. You do not know which way to turn. Itd funny but he seems to be coping much better than I

    Hi Elaine,

Sorry to hear your news. Having been through the ordeal I can tell you that I believe its worse for the partner than the patient. While I was given the best care in the world last November my wife was the one left feeling lonely and isolated. I lost about a quarter of my tongue but can speak and swallow ok now. The important thing with this illness is to work together to maintain a positive approach. The placebo effect is fact. The mind can do great things. Many positive things have come out of this episode for my wife and I and our three children. Sending positive thoughts...RMT

    Hi all

my wife was diagnosed with tongue cancer 3 weeks ago, she has since had an operation to remove part of her tongue and limph node in her neck, the operation was a success and she was told that all the cancer had been removed,on the following visit to the consultant we were told that there is no cancer but to be on the safe side a six week course of radiotherapy five days a week plus two lots of chemo was needed in case the cancer returns, she has been told the side effects of the radiotherapy alone are possible deathness in left ear, hair loss, loss of left saliva gland, deep rooted ulcers in the mouth which will last for one year after the treatment and extremely painful so will need to take morphine, and that she will never be able to eat normally again, So she is thinking of refusing the treatment and hoping it does't return,we have to let them know by this wednsday, I'm wrting this too see if anyone knows if this is actually what will happen or the worst possible case.

    thanks

    jim

Hi all I have just had a biopsy on my tongue and cancer had been mentioned along with radium treatment but haven't actually been told " you have cancer" and wont get the results from biopsy till next week! Dental/doctor said that he's pretty sure it is cancer and that they wouldn't do a biopsy unless it was needed, I just feel so confused, keep telling myself that results will be clear and all will be fine but know I'm just kidding myself as still a bit shocked. Have had the symptoms for about 3 months although I just presumed they were just ulcers! Sorry for rambling on just wondered if anyone can give me any advice on what to expect next Many thanks

Hello Cassiemisty.  Welcome to the site.  I would suggest you also join the head and neck cancer group and ask your question there as not everyone reads the blog comments.  I think it is unfortunately usual to have to wait for your biopsy results.  I've been in that situation myself and the waiting is awful.  Let's hope you hear something soon, I would imagine you will firstly be contacted and given an appointment to discuss the results.  Take care xx.
