I am new at this

Less than one minute read time.
Hi I am new to this not sure If I have done this right, computers and me do not mix. Just wanted to know if anyone has advice on getting back to normal eating after nasopharyngeal cancer treatment My husband has just finished his treatment well 6 weeks ago, and we are struggling how to move on. As I say I am not very good on the computer not sure if I have set up this blog right, so I will push the button and hope for the best. Look forward to hearing from anyone

You did it!  I can't answer your question, I'm afraid as I have cancer elsewhere on the map as it were - but I'm wishing you both all the best, and expecting someone with the right knowledge to be along shortly.  xxxx Penny

Hi there - my name is geraldine. I'm 8 years post radical neck dissection and agressive radiotherapy to the throat and chest area. Some ideas which may help with your partners eating (which is of paramount importance for his general health and all round recovery)

Everyone is an individual and my own experience may be very different but I know I was determined to eat well in whatever way I could. At one point when my skin inside and outside was raw I was admitted to Hospital and almost needed to have a peg inserted but with the help of oramorph to ease the pain  was able to gradually drink water then other drinks including complan/protein drinks. I then progressed onto soups ( anything can be put into a soup and blended til smooth so he can have all vitamins required) I'm sorry if I'm stating the obvious and don't want to be patronising but I enjoy cooking so found these things easy. The next thing I did was to have my food slightly thicker and I would make a meal for the family and mine would be blended- everything went in! If it was a roast dinner It was meat veg yorkshire pud, gravy- the lot- I certainly wasn't going to miss out on anything!! Oh and another thing after a while I wanted to have a drink socially and found that wine tasted very acidic( I certainly don't have that problem anymore and am enjoying a nice glass of red wine at the moment! So then I drank beer, mainly guiness and stout ( full of iron!)

So basically eat like a baby for a while going onto solids- PUREE EVERYTHING!!

When my throat had healed I used to gargle with warm water to which I added a couple of drops of tea tree oil and still do this now.

I hope your partner remains strong and that you are a good support and that this has been of help to you.

    Geraldine.
