Back from Hols

1 minute read time.

25th July 2011

Well its been a while since I`ve had time to update my blog so here goes .

A month or so ago we had a fairly stressful period with one thing and another and the Mac nurse thought it would benefit us all to have a weeks respite. We arranged for dad to go in the local nursing home and Al and I booked a  weeks holiday on the Isle of Skye. Our Macmillan nurse is absolutely fantastic with support she gives to all of us . Anyway we have just returned from a wonderfully restful week feeling so much better and ready to face the future whatever it brings.

Dad says his stay at the nursing home wasn`t bad but speaking to the manager  we heard that there had been a few "teething problems" . Dad has a nebulizer to help his chest and he wanted to keep it on his bed side cabinet along with his electric razor etc. . I can`t see what problem it would cause but apparently it did . Anyway they gave in and allowed him to keep them there .

Dad has been attending the local day hospice , one day a week, but this is about to stop in the next couple of weeks as their policy only allows for 6 weeks attendance .. dad has already had double that, because he enjoys going, they allowed him longer . The doctor at the hospice feels that he should attend day care for 1 day a week because it helps with his mood ( dad can get very depressed) so we had an assessment by Social Services before the holidays and we are waiting for a phone call now to let us know when dad can go for a days trial to see if he likes it.

Since the last time I wrote dad has been quite stable. The one big difference is his appetite ..it  seems to be diminishing rapidly .He is still having the steroids but I guess his body must be getting used to them now, I will have a word with our Mac nurse on Tuesday when she comes.

Bye for now xx
