Welcome back!

2 minute read time.

Welcome back to the Online Community!

The new platform is now live, and we’re so happy to share it with you. So please take a look around!

The site looks and feels different, but all your groups and content remain the same. When you log in for the first time, you will be prompted to reset your password for security purposes. Once you’ve reset your password, you’ll be able to log in, explore content and post as normal.

If you’d like to find out more about why this upgrade has taken place, please take a look at our blog here.

Highlights

  • Bookmarks – you’ll now be able to “bookmark” and easily access specific discussion threads, groups or blogs
  • Better search feature – searching for content on the site will now work more smoothly, helping you to get to the content you need quicker
  • Uploading pictures will be much easier on any device, and should work without any glitches
  • Clean and bright appearance making content easy to read and accessible on any device

This is just the beginning. We’ll continue to develop and grow the Community, and the new platform will give us and our users some great opportunities to improve the site moving forwards.

If you’re not sure about how to use the new site, please take a look at our Help section here. You can also read our Frequently Asked Questions about the new site here. The Community team are also here to help with any technical problems at community@macmillan.org.uk.

Known error – Getting logged out

We’re aware of an issue where some members are getting logged out of the site. Please rest assured that your content should still be there when you log back in, even an unfinished post, and that we are working to resolve this issue.

Known error – “The current user is already registered in Online Community platform.”

Some of our members are receiving an error message which reads “The current user is already registered in Online Community platform” when they try to log in after resetting their password. We are aware this is an issue, and we are working to resolve this as soon as we can.

If you’re experiencing this issue, you can try to resolve this first by updating your internet settings. To do this, clear your cookies and browser history (you can choose to save stored passwords). If you need help with this, there’s some more information in the following links:

If you haven’t already, you can follow this link to reset your password.

Your My Macmillan account is now one log in, for all our online services. You can find out more here.

Do you have any feedback?

  • Eliza, thanks for your hard work but WHO on earth thought it was a good idea to bring in these changes in the middle of lockdown when many people are super stressed due to delayed tests / results / appointments and often unable to see their loved ones if shielding etc. Very strange timing. I can imagine it was planned last year / before COVID, but surely pressing the PAUSE button was an option then COVID arrived...? Anyway, I'm back in now but I'm seeing a lot of desperate unanswered posts...

  • Hi everyone,

Thank you to everyone who has posted a comment here.

If anyone is struggling with how to use the new site, we have a fully updated Help section here. This includes step-by-step guides on using groups, viewing your friends list, private messages and navigating the site. We also have a list of FAQs about changes to the new site here.

The Community team also are on hand to answer any questions in our Help group. Posting a question in this group will ensure the Community team sees your question and can respond as soon as we can.

If anyone is experiencing any technical problems, please contact the Community team at community@macmillan.org.uk to let us know. It would help us to solve any problems as soon as possible if you can provide as much information as you can about what you’re experiencing. Please try to include details of the following:

    • What device and internet browser you’re using
    • What you’re trying to do when something goes wrong
    • If you’re seeing an error message, please let us know what it says
    • Please include pictures or screenshots if possible

If you’re not experiencing any technical problems, but you’d like to provide feedback to Macmillan about how you feel about the new site, you can do so via this online form.

I hope this helps, but please remember you can reach the Community team at community@macmillan.org.uk or in our Help group if you have any questions or need support.

    Take care,

    Eliza
