As we welcome September, we enter Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. This blog highlights the practical and emotional effects thyroid cancer can have on your life.
As in all our forums, our Thyroid Cancer forum has members who come together to share their experiences and support one another through every step of their journeys. Whatever your experience may be, this forum is a safe space where you can connect with others who may truly understand what you're going through.
So join us on the Community as we read this blog to catch up with some of the recent discussions in our Thyroid cancer forum. Remember, if you have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer or supporting someone living with thyroid cancer, we hope this blog can be a helpful overview of the support you can find in the Thyroid cancer forum.
RAI Treatment
Radioactive Iodine treatment, also known as RAI, is used to treat thyroid cancer. We see lots of conversations on the Community about RAI and cancer treatment.
Sometimes when you’re unsure about how your treatment may affect you, it may be worth asking other members for their experiences.
Once you have felt comfortable enough to share your experience on the site, other members may feel confident enough to share what worked for them:
We often see members making connections with others who maybe going through a similar experience. Having virtual friends on the Community with whom you can chat to at all hours of the day and night, can help you feel less isolated and alone.
Dealing with Diagnosis
Receiving a diagnosis can be a worrying experience. It may be somewhat reassuring knowing that there are others who understand what you’re going through, whilst sharing wisdom from their own experiences.
Here, we can see a recent post from a Community member who is worried about the waiting times, post in the Thyroid cancer forum for some support:
This member also considered going the private route to get treatment due to feeling really anxious, another member helped calm the worries:
Reassurance
It can be reassuring to read another person’s experience, to know that your feelings and natural reactions to situations are valid:
The power of peer support is shown through messages of encouragement may go a long way:
We hope this blog has been a useful introduction to the Thyroid Cancer forum on the Community. Remember, no one has to face any cancer diagnosis alone. If you’re the one with a diagnosis or you have a loved one going through it. The Community is there for you.
If you are affected by Thyroid Cancer in any way, please consider joining the Thyroid Cancer forum. You can access some peer to peer support from other members who may be going through a very similar experience to yourself.
